Haha, there will never be a game as good as Earth and Beyond! I still remember a part where you had to click something mid-warp: an impossible task on dial-up. Great game design there..
Also, I *may* have some exciting news to announce soon that coincides somewhat with this news topic. Stay tuned. _________________ Contrary to popular belief, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the tiger or the lion or even the elephant. A neat video.
Also: Quote: Atari announces a two-week open beta for Star Trek Online will commence on January 12 and that signups for the test are now being accepted for Cryptic's Trekkie MMORPG on the Star Trek Online Website on a first-come, fist served basis. "We are excited to announce the dates for the open beta phase as this is one of the final steps in launching Star Trek Online to the public," says executive producer Craig Zinkievich. "We are looking forward to the launch of our first-of-a-kind MMORPG with anticipation and excitement and we expect Star Trek Online to explode onto the scene, giving fans and gamers a Star Trek experience like no other." |

That game has me hooked already. Well, it's Star Trek after all.
I'm just torn between Feds and Klingons. ^^ A Defiant class warship sounds really nice. But cruising around in a Bird of Prey style ship with cloaking device is just really tempting. ![]() I'll probably end up being Fed over Klingons though since the Romulans aren't a playable race. I'd love to have a Warbird. Damn. ^^ Can't wait (for this and SW:ToR) |

If we have to choose between Klingon and Federation, I will be going Klingon purely for the PvP side of it. Due to the fact everyone will be playing Federation.

Well, when played ATS Trek MUSH...
I played Fed, but realizing that in the Star Trek universe that can be fairly diverse... I'd actually like to see a more broad choice than Fed vs Klingons! Gotta love the Cardies, Romulans, Bajorans... I have a hard time seeing myself playing a Klingon. ![]() _________________

Chad has a Klingon fetish.
But yeah. I agree with Chad on everything but the female Klingon thing. |

The way it looks like, you can sort of play mesmer in this, Chad. There are those science vessels out there that are meant to fuck up the opponents or help friendlies with shields and stuff, so monk is covered too

Quote: Ten Ton Hammer: What about the social tools in the UI? Is it easy to find and add friends; find specific players; look for a group? Craig: I think with an MMO you’re constantly adding things in order to make that stuff easier. The friends list is really as in your face as we can get it – making sure that you can see their status, where they are, and what they’re doing. Adding people to that list is as easy as possible too. Looking For Group - we’re constantly making improvements to. I think one of the things that we’ve done in the game that really helps that is that the game is heavily instanced, but it also feels very persistent. Internally we call it our “Open Instancing.” For example, the Federation may tell me that they’ve received a distress call from a ship and they are sending me there to help out. I end up going there; I’m helping that ship; I go into that system. This episode that I’ve entered is a five-man instanced episode, but I’m playing solo tonight. If someone else has that same mission and they enter the door right around the same time that I do and I haven’t advanced the episode at all yet; they end up in the same instance that I’m in. We end up teamed together. I’m going to run into people doing the same sort of content. So we really try to funnel grouping as often as possible. You can turn Open Instancing off if you don’t like it, but for the most part, it works really well and it makes all of these small episodic instances feel like persistent locations. Amy: For game play, it’s really like two ships have responded to the same distress call. You’ve both heard it and you’re both trying to help at the same time, so you see each other. From this article: http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/77082 The quoted part about their instancing is extremely interesting. |

Shens wrote: http://store.steampowered.com/news/3301/ It looks like pre-orders are available on Steam. Yeah, and you can get some nice extra in game things. But I won't pre-order anything without trying it first. Not that I can afford it right now anyways. Maybe soon. I still hope to find SOME job here soon. |

Speaking of free stuff.. Saw this on the Penny Arcade Forums:
Quote: So, you guys know about the "exclusive" Admiral's uniform that's being given away with TOS Season 3 boxsets? Apparently somebody at Atari was retarded and thought it would be a good idea to make the key code the same for everybody. Log in to the STO site, then hit apply key (or go here) and enter "JIH MUSHA SOH" without quotes. |
