![]() ![]() Here is some info from the Penny-Arcade forum: - Switch from squares to hexagons changing the way the game plays. More room for maneuvers and more tactical options. - Changes to combat. More depth in combat, no more stacking of units. This will lead to bigger focus on terrain. - Inspired by Panzer General. - Reintroduction of Bombardment, now archers and siege equipment can shoot over melee units. - Better diplomatic AI. - More diplomatic options between players. - Less "cheating" AI. - Religion is not a factor anymore. - Resources are not infinite. For example one source of horse only supplies enough horses for 1 unit, but when that horseman dies the horses will respawn as a unit. - City States as a sort of small countries that never develop beyond their single city. They can provide bonusses if you befriend them, or you can take over their land. - Civics are out, now there is something called "Social Policies". - About the same amount of wonders, the tech tree will feel familiar. Great People still in. - Some victory conditions changed. For example in Conquest you only have to capture all the other capitals. Eliminates boring mop up phase. - Unique Civ leader bonuses, no more standard "Spiritual" or "Financial". - DirectX 11 support. - Built in web browser. Sid Meier is also working on a facebook application of Civilization. I will be watching this thread for updates on the game. |

Screw SC2. It's not gonna be another SC phenomenon anyways. Just like D3 won't be another success like D2...
But hell, I always loved Panzer General (I actually played it again like a year ago, hah. Some of the changes sound nice (like no unit stacking), but I'm not sure about some other things though (like the finite resources). Eh, it's still gonna be a while til it arrives and many things can change, but it sounds good. |

I am pretty sure SC2 is going to be a huge success. Let's say people in the west don't pick it, Korea will still make up for it. I have been watching people play the beta for SC2 and it looks really fun. I am just not excited about their 3 boxes scheme they have going.
I also am pretty ho hum about Diablo 3, but I am sure it will sell well. People still compare every dungeon crawler to Diablo 2. I mean, wtf, it is Blizzard. The people who turn a generic MMORPG into the biggest gaming phenomenon. I really wouldn't bet against Blizzard. |

Will the games be a sales success ? Of course, because people went nuts about SC and D2 so they definitely go for SC2 and D3.
Will the games be just as good ? I doubt it big time until I see it myself. Also, WoW was bound to be a success because the WC series was just very successful and people were dreaming about a MMO in that universe. It was a sure bet tbh. Was WoW any good ? I was actually bored after only a few hours and tossed it because it was nothing but grind. D2 in a 3D environment. If Blizzard decides to make a SC MMO it will be a huge success as well, no matter how shitty the game would turn out in the end. That's just the way it is. They build a good foundation with SC, WC and D2 and anything that follows in that path is gonna bring in money for them. |

WoW was nothing like D2. The only thing similar was that the quality of gear had colors. If anything, it was a dumbed down version of UO, EQ, DAOC, etc.
I want to see another Lost Vikings. I doubt they own the IP. |

Diablo 1 was a superior game to Diablo 2. Sure it had more levels to play, more areas to explore, but the graphics comparatively were average for its day, where as Diablo 1's graphics were top of the line when it came out. Ya sure I played the shit out of D2 like everyone else, and I came back to it a few times, but Diablo 1 was a far superior game and I spent probably double the time playing that over D2.
Ya I'll buy SC2 and Diablo 3, with out question. Blizzard makes great games, period. I fail to see how they could fuck them up. Blizzard is the Pixar of the gaming world for a reason. _________________

I am not at all excited about Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3. I find this sad since I've spent more hours on Starcraft and Diablo 2 than pretty much any other game (Morrowind and GuildWars are the only ones that come close).
Diablo 3 seems to have lost the soul of the Diablo games. The art style is "Blizzard" now and not "Blizzard North." It's too cartoony and not really gothic at all. It looks much more frantic than D2 and seems to have been made as more "accessible" (i.e. watered down and simple with zero risk of making mistakes). Diablo 1 used dark atmosphere and a slow pace to really bring you into the game. Diablo 2 was much more action packed but held on to the scary aspects of 1 while picking up the pace. Diablo 3 looks like 10,000 paper enemies you kill with a click while watching walls crumble and bridges explode as your character laughs. Starcraft 2 looks pretty good, but the pricing model threw me. I guess I just don't feel like it's worth $150 (or more) to me. I would say that I am more likely to pick up Starcraft 2 than Diablo 3, but I don't think I'll be able to make a decision until I actually play the game. With Bethesda and Blizzard kind of dropping the ball, the only AAA PC title I'm really looking forward to is GW2, and I don't really even know anything about it. If it ends up being disappointing I fear for my PC-gamer future ![]() _________________ sugar-coated cherry soda, i am a lightning bolta |

Haha wow. I had no idea Civ 5 was even being planned lol
Not overly blown away with anything I've seen or heard so far. Graphics look ho hum. Still early with everything though, so I'm still in wait-and-see mode, especially given the laughable quality of the post. I'm glad they're making changes to the combat system and making it more "depth in" (lol). That was without question one of the weakest areas of Civ 4. I mean seriously...3v3 fights? 100 unit "stacks"? Perfectly calculated winning odds? Come on. It's the 21st century, you can do better than that. I hope they spend a lot of time here... Also, expending resources sounds good to me; it gives you another reason to declare war on someone if there's a scarce resource near the border. The more reasons to mix it up, the better imo. Hopefully the improved diplomacy will help with this area as well. I'm actually kinda glad religions are "not a factor anymore". It was always "may the most fortunate player get Buddhism, the second most fortunate Hinduism, and third Judaism." Otherwise, have fun being at a disadvantage for the entire beginning phases of the game. And then there was always the "wtf" moment for one guy when two people got it on the same turn. One of my other wishes is an improved city management screen. The one in Civ 4 is a mess and and to this day I still don't understand parts of it. _________________ Contrary to popular belief, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the tiger or the lion or even the elephant. ... A new civ for getting the deluxe edition? FFS. I really hope they don't start charging 5 dollars per update/patch.
